Not to worry, Republicans aren't exactly taking credit for the nasty environment of hate they've built. The Republican National Committee is still playing the victim, saying in a statement quoted by NBC that they agreed that president's children are off limits but the media coverage was over the top. So that's a "No" for personal responsibility and a "yes" for the highly worn GOP complex of victimhood and persecution. Republicans are always the victim if anyone calls them out on their behavior. That's not "fair". Yes, it's not the Obama girls who are the real victims here, y'all. It's the grown up who attacked her. So the RNC believes that it's the media's fault that Elizabeth Lauten attacked the Obama girls, because if only the media hadn't reported what she did, no one would know and as you all know from Bible class, if they don't know about it, it's totally okay to do. Contrast that with President Obama's affirmative and personal statement that the media needed to leave Sarah Palin's family alone in 2008.
